Before You Give Anyone Advice, Read This
These rules save you from dismissing feelings, using useless silver linings, and looking insincere.
I'm facing a situation in my life where everyone is giving me advice. Everyone isn’t an exaggeration. And advice is an understatement; call it relentless pushing their point.
I’m not ready to reveal the situation just yet. Some people don’t know yet, and this isn't the way I wanted them to find out. But it’s not like this is a blip in my life; it’s changing the fabric of how I operate. It’s tearing my life apart.
It’s also set tongues wagging — people constantly talk to me, about me, around me. It’s ok. I get why. It’s what people do.
Another thing that “people do” is give advice.
As you can imagine, I'm inundated with advice from people who aren't going through what I'm going through. They don’t know what it is to be in my shoes, but the advice comes thick and fast.
Do this.
Don’t do that.
Avoid this pitfall.
Have you thought about XYZ?!
I’ve answered so many questions I can barely remember my answers.
